Either you’re in the process or you’ve just got your first furry friend. Congratulations!
There are few things as exciting as owning and taking care of a pet. But, it takes work, and you’ll need some tools to work with. This is by no means an exhaustive list (because of course they need treats and toys!), but merely one to get you started as you think through all you’ll need to nurture and care for your dog or cat.
Food and Water Bowls
This one is a no brainer. Your pet needs to eat and drink! Make sure to find bowls that can readily hold a meal’s worth or more of food for your pet. Many animals need to eat two to three times a day, and even more when they’re young. Look into bowls that are resilient to being scuffed up, easy to clean, and hard to break.
Collars with ID Tag + Phone Number
The last thing you want to think about for your new pet is the idea that he or she could make a mad dash for the door and escape! But, accidents happen, so new pet owners should be prepared just in case. A good collar is helpful and stylish, but it’s also a convenient way to mark your pet as your own with an identification tag. Pet shops and other stores sell these and do engravings, so we recommend getting one with your phone number. That way, if someone picks up your pet, they can easily reach you.
Just like humans, dogs’ and cats’ nails constantly grow and need to be regularly trimmed. No one likes getting scratched with unkept nails! While some can think of horror stories regarding trimming a pet’s nails, getting the right tool will save you a lot of headache. It will also protect your pet from any unnecessary pain.
Hair Brush or Comb
Unless you’re bald or have dreadlocks, you probably run a comb or brush through your hair regularly. The same should be true for your pet! Their coats need consistent attention in order to avoid matting, which is not only unsightly, but frustrating to get out! Depending on the length and thickness of your pet’s coat, you should choose what kind of grooming tool you’ll need. We want our pets to be healthy and beautiful, and keeping all that hair under control is one of the best ways to make it happen!
And Much Much More!
These are just a few of the things you’ll need now that your a pet owner. What other things could you add to our list? Some things are easy to think of, but what are some little known tools that really help in caring for your pet? Let us know, and enjoy your new friend!
